A Week of Outfits (Zoe)

In my opinion, nothing tells you more about a person’s style than his or her everyday outfits. Sure, a party dress can really show some flair, but it’s the things that we automatically grab for in the mornings as we are sleep deprived that we depend on to look stylish and presentable, without being boring — or downright ugly.

So I wanted to show you what I wear everyday, in hopes that you can get to know me a little better. This includes finding creative ways to interpret my dress code/uniform, styling fun workout gear and taking advantage of the free reign over my outfits I have on the weekend.

Friday was a non uniform day, so i just wore a cute graphic tee (forever 21) with some jeans and some booties (nine west)

Saturday was the first really warm day of spring and finally (!) it was warm enough to wear shorts (Ralph Lauren Kids) I paired them with a old tee shirt from H&M and Supergas

Sunday is my “lazy” day where I catch up on homework and write my blog post. I paired basic Lululemon leggings with a sweatshirt from H&M

DIY Tumblr Inspired Wall Decor

IMG_7935 2

When spring break came to an end, I found myself once again spending countless hours sitting at my desk. My desk was basically a white, blank space and it really wasn’t a happy or inviting place to work. This weekend, I made all of these decorations with items i already had in my house, inspired by the mint and pink color scheme I have been seeing on tumblr frequently, along with brown and gold accents.

Here are the three projects I did to make this space my own.

1) Printable Triangle Banner

You Will Need:

A Printer

Pennant Printable Document (below)

First, I would like to say this template is NOT mine. I simply resized it and added the colors. Credits for the template go to Flairy Tales.

The first thing you will need to do is download this document and print out the desired number of triangles (for reference, the base of each triangle is about the size of a trident gum pack)

Then assemble the banner as shown below:

BeFunky Collage

2) Tumblr Collage

You will need:

Non-Corrugated Cardboard

mintandpinkpics (the images that i used for my collage) along with any other pictures you would like

This DIY is super simple, all you have to do is cut out the pictures and glue it on non corrugated cardboard (the thin cardboard that is used for notebooks and other household items). Of course you can decorate it with washi tape or stickers, but I went for a more minimalistic look.

3) Post-It Weekly Calendar

This last DIY is really simple again. Just cut your mint/blue post its so only the sticky part is left and then stick the white post its under them (cut them in half for the weekends) like this:

Then fill in with a bright pink pen!

Lastly, for the center, I took some pastel magnets and put some chalk in a magnetic container since it is naturally pastel.

My Spa Bucket List

Traveling is my favorite hobby but if the place I’m staying has a spa, it makes the vacation twice as good. Although many of my dream spa vacations are waaay too expensive and confusing to coordinate, I still put together a list of my top three dream spa getaways. These luxurious hotels are all placed in scenic locations and along with spa activities, are also accompanied with cultural and unique recreations.

Song Saa Private Island — Cambodia

Okay, a stay on this island looks ABSOLUTELY INSANE. I completely recommend checking out this website because it looks absolutely beautiful. The secluded island is perfect for a spa getaway and tropical experience. The website offers activities such as walks through the rainforest, kayaking through the mangroves, snorkeling with stunning tropical fish, and many more! And of course, yoga, massages, facials and other spa experiences are offered.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel — Bodrum

Located on the Bodrum peninsula, this hotel is placed in a scenic location. The highly rated spa is extremely large and spread out over 27,000 square meters. The spa is open and widespread, so the visitors can look out over the gorgeous Aegean Sea.

The Peninsula Hotels — Paris

Screen Shot 2015-03-19 at 11.46.44 AM

The Peninsula Hotel Paris has been one of my dream hotels for a long time. Like the hotel itself, the spa is insanely large and luxurious. It includes a pool, jacuzzis, treatment rooms, and a relaxation room. It also focuses on soothing interior design and decoration.

Tell us if you find this list helpful and leave comments and pictures in the section below!

My Beach/Pool Essentials

IMG_7449For spring break 2015 I am in sunny Florida and the majority of my time is spent at the pool and beach. These are some things I can’t live without.

1. A Comfy Coverup — I love bikinis as much as the next person, but of course I need to have something to slip on for when I go to grab a snack or take a walk. My style is really casual so I prefer a fitted tee to a more dressy style. I love this Forever 21 top because it has a beachy anchor motif.

2. A Sheer-Nude Nail Polish — There is nothing that makes me feel like I’m on vacation more than freshly manicured nails. Of course, nail polish has to chip and I like to have a less noticeable color because I’m usually too busy relaxing to touch it up. Essie Figi is my absolute favorite.

3. Cute Sunglasses — Besides of course protecting my eyes from the sun, sunglasses are a great accessory. I think good sunglasses are definitely worthy of a splurge because they can be worn forever if you take care of them.

4. An IPhone Battery Case —  I DEFINITELY had hesitations about spending this much on a case (especially one that was so bulky). But, it has made my trip so far. I love to take pictures and look on social media, and since I spend so much time on my phone when I’m by the pool I decided to splurge. So far I’m loving how I don’t have to worry about my battery. I also love the blue and white color scheme of this case.

Hope this helped!

Packing for Spring Break Favorites

For my two weeks of spring break I am first staying in Val D’Isere, France, and then for the second week, Florida. Val D’Isere it is stationed extremely high in the icy mountains and is known best for its incredible skiing and snowy landscapes. This means I will be skiing in very low temperatures before leaving for the warm beaches of Florida AND I HAVE NO PACKING TIME IN-BETWEEN. So… I am going to have to pack my clothes for both warm and cold weather in the same suitcase. For this post I put together my favorites that can be worn in icy temperatures and in the burning sun.

1) Block Printed Cotton Tunic — Calypso St. Barth

I really like the fact that I can wear this shirt as both a cover-up and everyday shirt. I absolutely love the blue and green pattern and the embellished collar means I can wear it for fancier occasions with a simple skirt.

2) Chloe Miami Mint Bikini — Triangl

Aside from skiing, my favorite activity in Val D’Isere is swimming in the MOST AMAZING pools located in the town. I have been lusting after this bikini or a while and recently decided to buy it particularly for spring break. Mint green is one of my favorite colors and one of the main reasons I absolutely love this bikini. This swimsuit is purchased with an adorable matching neoprene bag that can be used to carry poolside accessories.

3) Gold Flip-Flops — Tkees

I love Tkees shoes so much, they are now the only brand I buy my flip-flops from. Although they at first seem a little heavier than normal flip-flops, I actually have gotten used to the weight and even prefer it to lighter sandals. These flip-flops in particular are perfect for my light-packing vacation because they can be worn to the pool and the faded gold is what makes these shoes able to be worn to dressier occasions.

4) Vegan Leather Skater Skirt — Abercrombie

On vacation, I usually wear this skirt to dinners or fancier occasions and I love to wear it with patterned shirts or crop tops. Sadly, this skirt is no longer available but I have found a similar one here at H&M.

5) Indigo Blue Cashmere Hoodie — Ralph Lauren

Anybody who knows me can tell you that I wear this hoodie all the time. It is incredibly soft and the faded navy color works with almost any outfit. It is extremely warm and comfortable but can be tied around my waist in the scorching Floridian sun.

6) Navy Stripe Gold Bottom Monogrammed Tote Bag — West Elm                                                image6image7

I actually received this tote bag as a Christmas present and have been using it VERY often. I absolutely love the combination of navy, white, and gold and this bag is also roomy and the perfect size for weekend trips. For spring break, it can be used to carry around both ski items and beach accessories (such as towels and flip-flops). Even though this tote is relatively expensive, I would recommend it as the perfect gift for anybody who travels over the weekend.

Study Tips for Exams and Tests

IMG_7304 In my last post I talked about how exited I was for spring. Though I can’t wait for spring, Sophie and I have to get through Final exams for the winter term first :(. So here are my top studying tips to make studying bearable and to make all that time you put in pay off. ***NOTE from now on we will be posting every Monday and Thursday

1. Make a Schedule.

My school gives us a lot of unstructured time and days off to study for exams and considering how I can turn a quick “study break” into 6 hours on YouTube I need to be held accountable for every minute of the day. At first, it felt really unproductive to take an hour out of my free time to schedule my study breaks for tomorrow, but then I realized this was one thing I could do just as efficiently while watching Dance Moms, which made it a win-win — I use my time efficiently, and then with the time I save I can watch some TV while I make a schedule for the next day.

2. Make Sure You Have a Clutter-Free Workspace

I may or may not have a problem with what I call “productive procrastination”. It’s when I organize my desk or pick out the next day’s outfit instead of studying for a test. My new years resolution this year was to keep my desk surface completely clear every night and it has done wonders for my studying habits. If you can’t manage to keep your desk clear, at least try to keep the paper stack to a minimum (you know what I’m talking about) and try to hoard display fewer trinkets on your desk.

3. Keep Yourself Motivated Do

whatever works for you. For me, its going to Staples and splurging for new pens or notebooks. I love this idea of getting a gummy bear for each paragraph you read (#5). The important thing is to not over indulge yourself. DON’T let yourself watch 3 hours of gossip girl the night before an exam. Instead, give yourself a break to have some dessert in between two topics. Hope these helped! XOXO Zoe

How to Make Flavored Meringues

As many of my friends know, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE MERINGUES. So when our teacher assigned my class a project, I just had to make them. The four flavors I used were peppermint, almond, rose and plain. This recipe makes around one hundred meringue kisses.

These are the ingredients you are going to need:

6 egg whites

1 1/2 cups of sugar

1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

1 teaspoon of vanilla

3 extracts – rose, almond, and peppermint

3 food colorings – pink, blue, purple

To begin, preset the oven to 225 degrees and line three baking sheets with aluminum foil.

Whisk the egg whites until they are completely foamy.

When they are foamy, continue beating but add in the vanilla and cream of tartar. Next, add in the sugar one teaspoon at a time, whisking for 30 seconds between additions (I know this takes some time but it is worth it in the end!) After all the sugar has been added, continue to beat until the mixture is stiff and glossy (but not dry).

Spoon the mixture equally into four separate, medium-sized bowls (this step gets really messy) Set both the flavors and colors next to each of the bowls so you don’t get them confused. Then dip the end of a toothpick into the pink food coloring (I am using this color for example) and combine it with one of the mixtures in the bowls. As a side note, you can add as much of this color as you want using the same toothpick. Next, add a drop of the extracts (make sure it is only a drop) into the meringue mixture and blend it completely in. Repeat these steps three more times, leaving one portion plain.

Place each mixture into four different pastry bags fitted with a 1/2 inch star tip and pipe out small meringue kisses, about 1 1/2 inches in size, leaving 1 inch spaces between each.

Reduce the oven temperature to 200 degrees and bake for 1 1/2 to 2 hours until the meringues are completely dry and can be lifted from the tinfoil.

Finally, move the kisses to a drying rack and store them in a cool, dry place before eating! If you end up making these delicious treats, leave pictures and comments below our post.
